SCHUMACHER HOMECOMING
MAY 15, 16, 17, 2009
SUMMARY

“Don’t miss a good time – see you in 2009”
For the people that attended the Homecoming this year, the above motto certainly rang true. A grand total of 429 former Schumacherites returned home and judging by the comments made to Committee Members, the whole experience was truly worthy. The weekend began with the registration process on the Friday night and the “Mac” was filled with smiling faces and spirited chatter well past the midnight hour.
Though the weather really did not cooperate, the homecoming attendees made the best of the situation by partaking in some of the activities that were made available. Some chose to visit the newly renovated and re-modeled Camp Bickell; some took in the excellent mine tour and some visited the Shania Twain Center.
Those who visited the new Miner’s Memorial in the McIntyre Park were very impressed. Many home comers visited Schumacher Public School where an excellent array of photos, high school graduating class pictures, newspaper articles and other memorabilia were on hand for viewing. The school also served as a meeting place to continue the visits and also to relive many memories that of former days in Schumacher. Many happy faces were visible but some tears were evident as well. The dinner-dance was held on Saturday evening and again the enjoyment continued way into the evening. The lunch was served on Sunday afternoon and this provided the people to say their goodbyes, share their hugs and their vows to hopefully meet again at the next homecoming.
Once again the Croatian Hall Society held a dinner-dance for the home comers on Sunday night catering to those that were staying over until Monday. A packed hall was experienced with more energized participants sharing stories and dancing after a wonderful taste of Croatian cuisine.
Committee members have been asked, “Is this the last one”? The Committee members after a brief respite have not said no and therefore if God is willing, it looks like our next homecoming will be held in 2014-“You must be seen in 2014”. Once again spread the word, talk to valued friends, and encourage those who have never attended any of the homecomings to come back and share in the reunion of all Schumacherites. The registration committee sends out forms to those people who have attended the last two homecomings. So you need to have attended in 2004 or 2009 to receive one. We do this because of mailing addresses being too old. (We had over 30 forms returned in 2009) Local registrations are always available at the Post Office and the Grandview Hotel.
2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of Schumacher’s birth. Hopefully we shall be able to post information on our website of any activities that might take place to celebrate this special occasion.
The organizing committee members express their deepest appreciation for the support received by the people who attended the 2009 Homecoming. Thanks are directed also to those who have sent cards of thanks, email messages of thanks as well as those who have expressed thank you messages in person. As mentioned, we intend to keep the web site active to post any information regarding our Town of Schumacher.
So spread the word:
