The first Schumacher Reunion took place in 1968, the time when the decision was made by the local school board to close the Schumacher High School. The reunion was organized to relive the fond memories of the school to which the adolescents of Schumacher and the surrounding areas attended for their high school years.
Then, eleven years later, in 1979, many local people as well as those from afar wanted another reunion, to continue reliving the days spent in Schumacher. At that time, in 1979, the people who attended the festivities, collectively indicated that a homecoming event should be held every five years, and that is exactly what has taken place since 1979. That is why another homecoming is being planned 2009. This homecoming is not just for the people that attended Schumacher High School - it is for anyone who lived in Schumacher. The get-together will provide an opportunity for all those people to visit their hometown and to meet friends from the past and to renew old acquaintances.
The first reunion in 1968 attracted 1100 visitors and since then, the homecomings have attracted an average of 600 people for the event. Former residents from all over Canada, North America and the World have returned home for the celebrations in the past. The organizing committee once again was happy to host close to 600 returnees to Schumacher in 2009.
